The MPTC-01 Miniature Multipoint Thermocouple is intended for use in situations in which it is necessary to measure temperature at several positions along a single sensor assembly. Rather than having only one point of measurement, the use of multiple sensing points enables engineers to obtain a better understanding of the temperature distribution and gradients over the entire process. Because of this, the MPTC-01 is well suited to applications in which temperature uniformity, process control and product quality are important.
The sensor is equipped with MGO-PAC mineral-insulated thermocouples, the individual sensing points being placed at predetermined distances along the probe. The sensing positions can be specified from the tip, which enables the unit to be customized to the particular equipment or process under observation. For different tube diameters, various configurations featuring multiple sensing points are available, the datasheet showing a capacity of up to 40 points for certain sizes.
The MPTC-01 can be ordered with thermocouple elements of Type J, K and N, as well as with junctions that are either grounded or ungrounded. The sheath diameters range from 1/8 in. to 3/8 in., together with a number of metric sizes. For the sheath material, the standard choices are 316/316L stainless steel and Inconel 600, and other materials are also available for specific process requirements.
Installation can be customized with NPT, BSP or metric process fittings, multiple fitting materials, and specified immersion lengths. Lead wires are available with Teflon or fiberglass insulation, with optional stainless-steel braiding for additional mechanical protection.
Several termination options are available, including bare ends, standard plugs, miniature plugs, high-temperature plugs, ultra-temperature plugs and ceramic plugs, along with matching jack options.
With its compact construction and configurable sensing-point locations, the MPTC-01 multipoint thermocouple provides a useful solution for monitoring temperature profiles and gradients over complex industrial processes where a single temperature measurement does not provide enough information.
